NAWIC QLD
Ivy Halstead, Director is a key member of the Mentoring & Education Committee for the National Association of Women in Construction and involved with the implementation of the Executive Leadership Series. NAWIC has identified the priority need to enhance the number of women holding board positions. To date, NAWIC QLD have presented 3 boardroom events to support this initiative. Now they are aiming to provide senior women the opportunity to attend the highly regarded five-day Australian Institute of Company Directors course, giving them the certified recognition and tools to confidently seek out directorship roles in the industry. In Australia’s top 20 major property companies, only one company has achieved a 50/50 balance and only six other companies a ratio of between 15-30% women in key management roles, according to research conducted for Property Council of Australia’s initiative Male Champions of Changes (2016/17). This is something that NAWIC and the Queensland Chapter are proactively trying to change.

500 Women in Property
500 Women in Property is an exciting initiative of the Property Council of Australia’s state Diversity committees to cultivate women in the sector. Slattery is delighted to take part again, which sees Property Council members take on a personal commitment to champion a woman in their organisation or business sphere who they believe will benefit from further networking and professional development opportunities. 500 Women in Property participants are mentored and invited to attend events with their sponsor, enabling them to meet and build relationships across the sector. This year Managing Director, Sarah Slattery and Director, Clients & Strategy Belinda Coates have sponsored two future leaders, Nancy Duarte from Shape and Sally Fielder from Architectus. Belinda Coates, who sits on the PCA Diversity Committee (Vic) said, ‘it’s wonderful to see how the program has flourished in such a short time.’ 500 Women in Property runs from March to December.
